South-Africa to Demarcate Zimbabwe amidst Coronavirus.

South Africa to build a fence within a month to demarcate its border with Zimbabwe. This is to inhibit people that tested positive for coronavirus and migrants without the necessary documents from entering its country, structure Minister Patricia de Lille has reported.

The construction would be an act of emergency measures that the government had decided to put in place after President Cyril Ramaphosa declared that the virus is a national disaster on Sunday.

The South African president, Mr Ramaphosa has instructed the closure of most of their border linking to neighbouring countries. Though the measure might not be effective if there are no measures to secure the fence even after building it”, Ms De Lille said.

The said fence will measure 1.8m (5ft 11in) in height, stretching for about 20km (12.4 miles), would be erected by South Africa on both side of the Beitbridge border, the topmost and famous crossing between the two aforementioned nations (South Africa and Zimbabwe), the minister said.

The number of people diagnosed in South Africa with the virus has risen to 150 since it had been detected about fortnight ago from a South African who had visited Italy.

Hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans sleep and live in South Africa. They carry out their day to day activities in South Africa. Majority of Zimbabweans fled their country due to political mayhem and an economic deficit after their government began a controversial reform programme for over 20 years ago.

South Africa has long attempted to reduce migration from Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa, for the sole reason of creating jobs for its own citizens.

There is no case of coronavirus yet in Zimbabwe, but Zimbabwe’s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa has instructed the close of schools and other educational institutions from next week as a preventive measure to combat the outbreak of coronavirus in their nation.
