Paris Saint-Germain club manager, Leonardo has revealed that legendary duo Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani would be leaving the French champions since their contracts will elapse at the beginning of this month.

“Yes, we are arriving at the top,” Leonardo said in an interview with newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

“It has been a very hard decision to take. These are players who have marked the history of the club and you wonder if you should carry on a little longer together or if it’s best to avoid staying a year too long.

Silva’s contract is thanks to expire at the top of this month, as is that of Uruguayan striker Cavani.

Cavani 33, in 2013 joined PSG from Napoli for a fee of 64 million euros and has proceeded to becoming the club’s all-time top goal scorer with 200 goals.
However, his place within the side came under threat following the arrival of Mauro Icardi on loan from Inter Milan at the beginning of the season.

Silva and Cavani have played a serious role in establishing PSG because the unrivalled force in French football, but their time at the club also will be remembered for disappointing results in Europe.

PSG presently made Icardi’s contract permanent but the financial strength of the Qatar-owned club has been extremely weak by the choice to terminate the Ligue 1 season early, with 10 rounds of matches unplayed, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

PSG were awarded champions for third consecutive times though the club is estimated to lose quite a huge sum of 200 million euros ($225 million), in a bid to trim their enormous wage bill.

“Maybe we are making an error , i do not know, there’s never an ideal moment,” added the Brazilian Leonardo, who does nevertheless hope to increase the contracts of both players to allow them to require part within the latter stages of the interrupted Champions League.

“The idea is that they continue with us until the end of August, but how we could achieve that isn’t clear yet.”

Paris are through to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition, which is about to be played to a finish in August.
